Blog Post Type #2

Creating different types of blog posts will help to keep your audience interested. It will also keep you from getting bored with your blog. Whether you are blogging to make money directly from the blog or blogging to drive traffic to an affiliate program, you should know about these five kinds of blog posts. Here’s type #2:

The Quick Tip Blog Post

Quick tips are great ways to post because they typically are short and add some variety to your blog. They are normally between 100 and 250 words. If you have cool tip or some quick information that you want to share with your niche but it doesn’t really warrant a full blog post, you can post a quick tip. The tip should be focused on one key area of the niche. For example, “How to grease a muffin pan” is a perfect quick tip article for a cooking blog.

Whether you are blogging to make money directly from the blog or blogging to drive traffic to an affiliate program, you should know about these five kinds of blog posts. Here’s type #1:

The Review Blog Post

Review blog posts take an in-depth look at a particular product or group of products. You should cover some of the major plusses and minuses of each product. Even if you loved the product, you should keep your review balanced by mentioning a few things that could have been improved. Your audience will appreciate your honesty and be more likely to trust your recommendation. If you are reviewing more than one product, the product you select as the best should be a product you have an affiliate relationship with. If you include your affiliate link in the blog post you can make a commission if your reader decides to purchase. This type of post adds a lot of value to your overall blog content.

Not Sure What To Write Your eBook About?

Everybody wants to know WHAT to write about.  What is it that people want to read?  What are the “hot topics” that you know will generate some interest if you write about them.

Even though the Internet has changed the face of the world — how we shop, communicate, do business, research and just about everything else — it hasn’t changed what we WANT.  There are classic (and absolutely TIMELESS) topics that are always going to be hot topics.

Here are the top 5 most profitable eBook subjects.  If you want to know WHAT people want and WHAT you should write about, then find something related to these topics…

1. Making Money
This one ain’t ever gonna go away.  You can just go ahead and etch it in stone, it’s here for the long haul.

We all want to make money (if for no other reason than to be charitable and give it away to someone else) and some of us (I won’t mention any names :o) are half-crazed for information on how to make money.

If you can show people how to make money (in a legal, moral way, of course) I can assure you, they will buy it.  I guarantee it. Internet marketing / doing business online eBooks are some of the hottest information products available anywhere in the world.  And for good reason.  People want to make more money. So, show ’em how to do it.

2. Self Help / Personal Growth
Another classic topic for writing is what has commonly been referred to as “self help” or “personal growth.”  People want to improve their lives.  Some struggle with addiction and need help in overcoming the struggle.  Other people have low self-esteem or feel depressed.  Some people don’t know how to deal with relationship problems and want to know how to save their marriage.  The list could go on and on.

I’ll make you another guarantee:  show people how to better their lives and they’ll buy from you.  No question about it. We all have things about our personalities that we would like changed.  Whether we’re shy in public or have a horrible temper or don’t know when to keep our mouths shut, there are things we’d like to improve. And that’s an eBook waiting for you to write.

3. Weight Loss / Fitness
Even though obesity and illness are at the highest levels ever, people are working hard to reclaim their health and fit bodies.  Gyms are overflowing with sweaty people and stores are selling out of vitamins left and right.  Health and fitness is a writing subject that you can never go wrong with.

Heck, I’ll be your first customer. :o)

The point is this:  we, as a society, want to be healthier and we struggle with being out of shape.  It’s no wonder that diet and exercise is a multi-billion dollar industry. Might as well get your piece of the pie.

4. Dating / Relationships
What another great topic for an eBook.  There are dozens of ideas you could use for this one that could each become best-sellers…

How to avoid divorce court.
How to make your marriage last forever.
How to be more romantic.
How to pick the perfect mate.
How to get people to notice you.
How to use online match making services.
How to be a great father / mother.
How to be a great husband / wife.
How to raise great kids.

I mean, we could go on and on and on here.  Play the energizer bunny if we want to.  There are dozens of ideas for this topic and the information sells like crazy.  Why?  Because if we have positive, enriching, growing relationships, we are HAPPIER.  And since we can’t buy happiness in a bottle…

…we buy your eBook instead!

5. Everyday Problems
Let’s face it, we all face problems everyday in our lives.  And often we don’t know where to turn or what to do next.

For example:  If someone is facing foreclosure, do you think they would be interested in finding information on how to avoid it?  You betcha.

I know of one guy who wrote an eBook about BAD BREATH and is selling the thing like crazy.  It’s an eBook on BAD BREATH for goodness sake!  And yet for folks who are struggling with the problem (and I am told it is a common problem — I guess I’ve just been lucky :o) they gladly shell out the $20.00 to find a cure.

Everyday problems.  They are a headache for US, but they are a product waiting to be created by YOU.

Write about any one of these topics and your eBook will sell. The reason is simple. This is what people want!

Tip – 4 Keys to List Building

1. REQUEST.

First things first, you need to convince people to “opt-in” to your list.  That is, get them to join your list of their own free will.

Usually, this involves giving away a mini-course, report or newsletter from your web site.  All you need is..

– An Attention Grabbing Title. (I could have chosen “4 Keys to Successful Email Promotions” for this article, but is that as attention-grabbing as “How to Pull in As Much Profit As Your Wallet Will Hold From Opt-In Lists”?)

– A Handful of Bulleted Benefits. (A short list of 4-6 desirable things subscribers will learn if they join your list. Think “what’s in it for me?”)

– An Opt-In Submission Form. (Your autoresponder system will provide this for you.)

NOTE: The BEST way to get folks to join is to embed the above mentioned items DIRECTLY in the most prominent place you have your site visitors’ attention.  Usually this is 3-5 paragraphs into your sales letter or 1/3 of the way into an ezine article.

2. RECEIVE.

After visitors to your site have “requested” information by joining your list, it’s critical that your emails be delivered successfully to their inbox.  With all of the filters in place (among other hazards) this can be quite a chore.

One thing you’ll want to do for certain is check your SPAM rating to make certain it’s in an acceptable range. Again, most of the better autoresponder services offer this feature for you.

You can also do things like…

– Get your subscribers to “approve” mailings from you.

– Authenticate yourself as a legitimate mailer when you receive a “response challenge” from protection services such as Spam Arrest.

– Use alternative formats of your email messages such as “downloadable email messages” in PDF format.

3. READ.

When your emails successfully arrive at the inboxes of your subscribers, another task awaits – getting them to  actually open your message and read it.

This is going to depend upon your “subject line”.  It is paramount that your subject line be intriguing enough to convince your readers to stop what they are doing and take a look inside.

One way to get this done is to create a swipe file of email subject lines that have convinced YOU to read the messages and then modify those subject lines for your own use.

Ex.  I received an email that had the subject line of “This affiliate tip is almost too easy” that caught my attention and forced me to read the associated message.

This subject line could easily be used in a variety of different niches…

– This dieting tip is almost too easy
– This time management tip is almost too easy
– This marriage saving tip is almost too easy

4. RESPOND.

When you have convinced your subscribers to open your email message and read its contents, the only remaining “task” is to get them to respond.

You want them to take action.  Click a link.  Go somewhere.  Ultimately, spend money with you.

The only way you’ll be able to do this is follow a simple catch phrase I’ve been teaching for years:  “useful, but incomplete”.

It simply means this:  your messages must provide content that is useful to your subscribers (otherwise, they’ll unsubscribe faster than you can say “oops”!), but is also “incomplete” in that there is some additional offer that could enhance or maximize that content.

Ex.  You might write an article that shares “7 Ways to Profit With Autoresponders” to send to your list.  That’s “useful” information to those who are interested in that particular topic.  It’s also “incomplete” because they need an autoresponder service to put the information into action.  That’s your cue to promote your recommended autoresponder service.

See how it works?

If you want to pad your wallet with profits by using opt-in lists, this is how you do it:

Get people to do these four things

– Request
– Receive
– Read
– Respond

This is a system that has never failed, will never fail. I’ve used it.  Others have used it.

Now, it’s your turn to use it.
