How To Create Your Own eBook in 48 Hours or Less

NOTE:  The following is part of a regular series entitled “Del, how do I…?” in which I’ll give you practical steps for accomplishing a specific objective.

You’ve probably heard that creating your own eBook can be a great way to make money online. The problem for most people is the task of actually writing a book seems so overwhelming.

I’m going to give you some steps and techniques that will make it almost push-button simple.

************************************************
The First Few Steps To Your First eBook
************************************************

eBooks deliver complete, instantly available, expert knowledge in a single, easily handled package. I suggest that you write your eBook on something you are interested in. This is the first step in making the process easier.

Selling eBooks comprises of three phases:
1)  Researching and developing an idea for the book
2)  Writing the eBook
3)  Marketing the eBook

************************************************
Researching Topics
************************************************

I suggest that you start out by brainstorming 3-5 potential topics that you are interested in for your eBook.

Then you should research the profitability of the topic. I’ll talk more about this below.

Your main objective is to write on a subject that has long term appeal. After all, you would like to derive as much profit out of your eBook as possible. It’s necessary that your subject does not get outdated in a couple of months after you wrote it – otherwise it’s going to need continually updating.

One of the best ways to research to profitability of your subject is by analyzing top searches at Search Engines. Many search engines as well as other popular portals such as Search Terms keep track of the most popular searches over a period. Besides, there are many other tools such the Keyword Live Software from Analog X that monitors top search terms at major Search Engines. You could use these lists to figure out the most popular subjects.

The next step is to carefully analyze some of the most popular subjects. You can use popular keyword search tools such as WordTracker or Overture’s Search Term Tool to determine popular search terms similar or relevant to the one’s you have listed.

************************************************
Writing the eBook
************************************************
In general there are three ways you can write your eBook. You can:

1. Write it yourself
2. Have it ghostwritten
3. Buy the rights to someone else’s copy

Remember, our focus here is to have an eBook ready for sale in 48 hours or less. Here’s how you do it:

If you want to write it yourself, here are three powerful ways to get your eBook written quickly.

1. Recompile Method
Just like a text book, you can create summations from various books and publications and recompile them into your eBook.

2. Author Participation Method
Go to an online article directory like ArticleDashboard.com and search for articles on your subject. Find 50-70 different articles on your subject and contact each of the authors by e-mail, tell them you are writing an eBook, saw their article and would like to include it as is (with their contact information) in your book. Take the articles from the authors that agree and put them in a logical order flow. List each article in your table of contents and your finished.

3. Use the Public Domain
In a nutshell, the Public Domain is a collection of books and other writings that no longer are copyright protected. This means that you can copy them and sell them as your own. For a listing of over 20,000 digital public domain items go to www.Gutenberg.org.

Ghostwriting
If you would like someone to ghostwrite for you I would suggest you go to a freelancer site like elance.com (www.elance.com). Be sure to state your time frame in your quote – 48 hours or less.

Private Label Rights
There is a whole world out there of Private Label articles, reports and eBooks you can buy and use as your own. Forget about our goal of 48 hours you could have an eBook ready for sale in 2 minutes. There are a number of sources out there and I’ll give you my favorite at the end of this post.

************************************************
Marketing the eBook
************************************************
The final step is marketing the eBook. In the near future I’m going to have a post on my blog that goes into great detail about that. What I want to cover here is the importance of a good eBook cover and other graphics. Contrary to the popular saying, people do judge a book by it’s cover!

Also, the quality of your cover and other graphics will be a big factor in how much you can charge for your eBook. If it looks like quality it will sell for a quality price.

Follow these steps and guidelines and you can have your very own eBook in 48 hours or less!

And that’s how you do it!

A Quick Story – A Dream Comes True

Here’s short a story about a guy who has been in business for over 20 years. He has built businesses in all sorts of industries. And like so many others, he has had some successes and lots of failures.

As he got older however, he noticed that business success was less about what he did and more about how he did it. In other words he realized that the concepts of “80 hour work weeks” and “vacations are for wimps” weren’t the keys to success. He figured there had to be a better (smarter) way.

His Quest Begins

As you might have guessed, that guy is me. I’m in my mid 40’s (okay, late 40’s) and I live in the San Diego, CA area. When I’m not working on my various business enterprises or spending time with my family I’m usually on the golf course (mostly looking for my errant ball).

Over the years I’ve done a lot of thinking and research on what makes us “successful”. Of course, one of the things I came to realize was that “success” is a self-defined term. In other words, it is what it is, for you.

My challenge was always that I love playing golf, taking long walks, playing basketball, watching sports on TV, and hanging out on the beach. All so called “no -no’s” according to conventional wisdom on how to get ahead!

But I never gave up. And I finally figured it out.

Mentors and Teachers

I want to give full credit where credit is due. Many people contributed to my recent “ah-ha’s” and have helped me to create a terrific life, and I want to single out a few in particular (you can check out who they are and what they have to offer by clicking on the links next to their names):

Armand Morin
Bob Doyle – Wealth Beyond Reason
Ken Evoy – Site Build It
Jimmy D. Brown – Sales Army

I’ve incorporated their teachings and programs into my online business model and I have created for myself a simple to manage and very profitable web based business.

The Dream Comes True

In the end what I’ve created for myself is a business that earns me money whether I’m playing golf or playing with my kids on the beach!

And this is something I believe ANYONE can do.

Is it slam-dunk easy – NO
Can it be done overnight – NO
Are you guaranteed “success” – NO

Hey, I’m telling you the truth here! I call ‘em Like I see ‘em.

Can you be making money while you sleep – YES
Can it be done faster than with a traditional business – YES
Can you have “success” if you follow the steps – ABSOLUTELY YES!

So that’s my story…

And that’s why I created this website. Check out what I talk about here and you too can have whatever “success” you want, however you choose to define it.

I wish you all the best,
Del Lewis

Tip – 4 Keys to List Building

1. REQUEST.

First things first, you need to convince people to “opt-in” to your list.  That is, get them to join your list of their own free will.

Usually, this involves giving away a mini-course, report or newsletter from your web site.  All you need is..

– An Attention Grabbing Title. (I could have chosen “4 Keys to Successful Email Promotions” for this article, but is that as attention-grabbing as “How to Pull in As Much Profit As Your Wallet Will Hold From Opt-In Lists”?)

– A Handful of Bulleted Benefits. (A short list of 4-6 desirable things subscribers will learn if they join your list. Think “what’s in it for me?”)

– An Opt-In Submission Form. (Your autoresponder system will provide this for you.)

NOTE: The BEST way to get folks to join is to embed the above mentioned items DIRECTLY in the most prominent place you have your site visitors’ attention.  Usually this is 3-5 paragraphs into your sales letter or 1/3 of the way into an ezine article.

2. RECEIVE.

After visitors to your site have “requested” information by joining your list, it’s critical that your emails be delivered successfully to their inbox.  With all of the filters in place (among other hazards) this can be quite a chore.

One thing you’ll want to do for certain is check your SPAM rating to make certain it’s in an acceptable range. Again, most of the better autoresponder services offer this feature for you.

You can also do things like…

– Get your subscribers to “approve” mailings from you.

– Authenticate yourself as a legitimate mailer when you receive a “response challenge” from protection services such as Spam Arrest.

– Use alternative formats of your email messages such as “downloadable email messages” in PDF format.

3. READ.

When your emails successfully arrive at the inboxes of your subscribers, another task awaits – getting them to  actually open your message and read it.

This is going to depend upon your “subject line”.  It is paramount that your subject line be intriguing enough to convince your readers to stop what they are doing and take a look inside.

One way to get this done is to create a swipe file of email subject lines that have convinced YOU to read the messages and then modify those subject lines for your own use.

Ex.  I received an email that had the subject line of “This affiliate tip is almost too easy” that caught my attention and forced me to read the associated message.

This subject line could easily be used in a variety of different niches…

– This dieting tip is almost too easy
– This time management tip is almost too easy
– This marriage saving tip is almost too easy

4. RESPOND.

When you have convinced your subscribers to open your email message and read its contents, the only remaining “task” is to get them to respond.

You want them to take action.  Click a link.  Go somewhere.  Ultimately, spend money with you.

The only way you’ll be able to do this is follow a simple catch phrase I’ve been teaching for years:  “useful, but incomplete”.

It simply means this:  your messages must provide content that is useful to your subscribers (otherwise, they’ll unsubscribe faster than you can say “oops”!), but is also “incomplete” in that there is some additional offer that could enhance or maximize that content.

Ex.  You might write an article that shares “7 Ways to Profit With Autoresponders” to send to your list.  That’s “useful” information to those who are interested in that particular topic.  It’s also “incomplete” because they need an autoresponder service to put the information into action.  That’s your cue to promote your recommended autoresponder service.

See how it works?

If you want to pad your wallet with profits by using opt-in lists, this is how you do it:

Get people to do these four things

– Request
– Receive
– Read
– Respond

This is a system that has never failed, will never fail. I’ve used it.  Others have used it.

Now, it’s your turn to use it.

Tip – Traffic The Easy Way

** If you have your own product to sell online,
you only need to focus on ONE traffic strategy! **

I’m absolutely serious!

Instead of trying to do a gazillion things, there is a very
simple, very effective approach:

Focus on the ONE thing
that really matters, the ONE thing that produces the
greatest results, the ONE thing that will get you all the
traffic you’ll ever need.

And that ONE thing is to…

** Start, Strengthen and Spread Your Own Affiliate Program*

Let’s look at that statement in 3 steps for simplicity
purposes…

Step 1:  *START* Your Affiliate Program.

There is one major reason why you need to start your own
affiliate program that stands head and shoulders above the
rest:  every traffic generation concept (past, present and
future) can be done FOR YOU, BY OTHERS if you have your own
affiliate program in place.

Let that sink in.  Chew on that for a while.  It’s such a
paradigm shift that most people don’t even realize the
tidal-wave-like power behind the concept.

Instead of you working with PPC ads and you working on the
SEO stuff and you buying the solo mailings, you can get
others to do this FOR YOU as a member of your affiliate
program.

So, to begin with, you need to start your own affiliate
program.  A great place to do this is Clickbank.com.

Step 2:  *STRENGTHEN* Your Affiliate Program.

After establishing your affiliate program, it’s important
to “strengthen” it.  That is, you will need to train your
affiliates to do all of the marketing for you.  You’ll also
need to provide them with marketing materials such as
brandable PDF reports, articles, advertisements, banners,
etc.

But, let’s take this another step.

Instead of loading some marketing and training materials to
your affiliate center and leaving it up to your affiliates
to figure out how to use them, why not point out how to use
them?

Example:  List 10 great newsletters where they can purchase
solo mailings to promote your offer.  Put something in
there for every budget.  (What a nice treat it will be when
one of your aggressive affiliates purchases a $500 solo
mailing to promote your offer!)

You’ll be SHOCKED to see what this one additional step can
mean to your bottom line.

But, you could take it even another step further.

How about offering to personally train 10 affiliates in how
best to promote your offer?  You could teach one how to use
ezine advertising; another how to buy PPC ads in numerous
engines; still another how to distribute ezine articles.

(Here’s an idea:  how about you purchase a copy of the
latest traffic tool or manual for one of your affiliates
and get them involved in using it to promote you?!)

Can you imagine the impact?

Step 3:  *SPREAD* Your Affiliate Program.

Finally, you want to continue growing your program by
recruiting more and more affiliates.  As your numbers grow,
so will your results.

The bottom line is simple:  instead of “juggling” a bunch
of different traffic ideas, a much more effective use of
your time is to focus on ONE source of traffic:  your own
affiliate program.

Juggling is great for clowns, but lousy for internet
marketers.

Don’t be a clown when it comes to your business.
